Jan, Day Hiking Ambassador
Snowshoeing for us, has always been about getting away from the crowds, finding peace in nature and keeping fit during the winter months. As this season draws to a close, my friends asked me to do a snowshoe race at one of my favorite resorts, Beaver Creek, which is nestled in Colorado’s North Central Mountains West of Vail. I’m not a racer but this event was a fun and fabulous way to end the snowshoe season.
Beaver Creek Ski Resort is home to McCoy Park, which is accessed via lift and features both groomed and rustic trails.
Before the race, racers were filled with energy and excitement that only a sun filled day at 9,840’ altitude can bring.
The snowshoe park winds through the woods and is surrounded by three mountain ranges, making for panoramic views that inspire and motivates you up the trail’s vertical gain of just under 1,000’.
This season was filled with adventure and as it draws to a close, it is filled with great memories made with friends, family, the Tubbs Romp to Stomp event and now with a snowshoe race. It has been another successful chapter in this snowshoe ambassadors team’s book of epic adventures.
Exploring on snowshoes to be continued … next year!
