Connections for Youth

On March 15th, 14 foster kids from Connections for Youth were treated to a warm and sunny day in the Sierras. For half of these kids, it was their first time in the snow. Many others had grown up visiting the snow, but hadn’t had a chance to get into the mountains in years.   We spent the morning sledding at Adventure Mountain- enjoying the slick conditions that sent our sleds whizzing down the hill, only stopping by plowing into the snowbanks at the bottom of the hill. After lunch, we strapped on our Tubbs snowshoes  and hiked into our own private winter wonderland. The kids took full advantage of leaving the crowds behind, launching into an all-out snowball fight. Giggles filled the air as kids threw their snowballs, then ran for cover behind boulders and rocks.  Since it was the first time on snowshoes for all of the kids, many giggles came from inadvertent face-plants, as the kids dodged and sprinted in their snowshoes. While the kids were reluctant to leave, all were napping soundly in the cars on the way back to Sacramento, and woke up smiling about their adventures of the day.
